Chinesimple is Khanji School's app for learning Mandarin Chinese from scratch. Follow a beginner Chinese course with explanations in English. A range of activities helps you recognise words, understand your first sentences and get familiar with Chinese characters.

A CLEAR PLACE TO START

At first, everything feels new: the sounds, the tones, the writing. The course introduces them gradually, with explanations and activities to put what you learn into practice. Whenever you come back, you can pick up where you left off.

WORDS THAT START TO MAKE SENSE

Learn Chinese vocabulary with images, audio and examples that help you understand each word. Hear native speakers pronounce it and discover how it works in a sentence.

When you need help, use the Chinese dictionary to explore meanings, pronunciations and examples. Use pinyin to see how a word is pronounced. It shows the sounds of Chinese using the Latin alphabet. Then listen to a native speaker say the word.

PRACTICE THAT HELPS YOU REMEMBER

You won't always remember a word the first time. Chinese flashcards help you connect characters, images and meanings. Spaced repetition helps you revisit words over time.

Create your own decks and combine review with reading, listening, pronunciation and writing activities. Practise the words you find difficult and see which ones you already remember.

YOUR FIRST CHARACTERS, STROKE BY STROKE

Start learning to write Chinese by following the stroke order. Watch how each character is formed and practise to get familiar with its structure.

Little by little, you'll start to recognise these shapes in the words you study. Each word you recognise takes you a step closer to reading Chinese.

LISTEN AND GIVE SPEAKING A TRY

Listen to native speakers and practise Chinese pronunciation and tones with the words and sentences you're learning. Get familiar with the sounds of Mandarin as you build your foundation.

MAKE TIME FOR YOUR CHINESE

Continue the course or spend a little time reviewing. Daily practice suggests what to work on next. Progress tracking helps you see the work you've done. Streaks encourage you to come back and keep going.
