About this ebook

Songwriting Simplified is a detailed, practical guide to Songwriting Simplified for Absolute Beginners for readers who want a clear path from understanding the topic to using it confidently in real situations. The book is designed as a structured learning companion rather than a shallow overview: it introduces the core ideas, explains why they matter, then develops them through realistic examples, guided practice, scenario-based explanations, and common mistakes to avoid. Readers are taken step by step from foundational concepts into everyday applications, with each chapter building on the previous one so the material feels progressive, usable, and easy to revisit. The main areas of focus include The Anatomy of a Song, From Idea to First Line, Choosing Your Song Structure, Rhyming Without Fear, Melody from Speech, Three Chords to Your First Progression, Lyric Imagery Workout, Building a Strong Hook, Your Song Outline Template, 10 Common Beginner Songwriting Mistakes, giving the book a concrete learning arc that moves from orientation and confidence-building to applied communication, problem solving, and independent practice. The writing style is direct, supportive, and accessible, making the book suitable for self-study, classroom reinforcement, professional development, or personal improvement. It emphasizes practical understanding over abstract theory, so readers can immediately connect the lessons to conversations, decisions, habits, and challenges they are likely to face outside the page. By the end of the book, readers should have not only a stronger grasp of the subject, but also a collection of repeatable strategies, useful language patterns, mental models, and practical routines they can continue applying after they finish reading.

About the author

Jonacia Hunt is a songwriter, music educator, and the founder of First Chord Creative, a platform dedicated to helping absolute beginners discover their voice through songwriting. With over a decade of experience writing and performing across folk, pop, and Americana, she has worked as a session lyricist, a vocal coach, and a workshop facilitator for emerging songwriters at all levels.

Her approach to teaching is rooted in a simple conviction: that creativity is not a gift reserved for the talented few, but a skill that can be learned, practiced, and mastered by anyone willing to start. She has led songwriting intensives at community arts centers, libraries, and high schools across the southeastern United States, and she has coached hundreds of first-time songwriters through the process of writing and completing their first song.

In addition to *Songwriting Simplified*, Jonacia is the author of the companion workbook *30 Days of Song Starts* and the forthcoming *Lyric First: A Line-by-Line Guide to Writing Better Lyrics*. Her writing on creativity, habit, and the craft of songwriting has appeared in *American Songwriter*, *Songwriter Magazine*, and *The Creative Independent*.

She lives in Nashville, Tennessee, with a border collie named Dolly and a guitar collection that grows faster than her closet space. When she isn't writing or teaching, she can be found at open mic nights listening to first-time performers play their very first songs — which she still believes is the bravest thing a person can do.
