Will Green has spent over a decade as a developmental editor and writing coach specializing in speculative fiction, working with authors who have gone on to sign with major publishers, win genre awards, and build devoted readerships in science fiction and fantasy. He is the founder of the Galactic Fiction Workshop, an intensive online program that has helped more than four hundred writers develop their space opera manuscripts from first draft to publication.
His editorial clients have been finalists for the Hugo, Nebula, and Locus Awards, and his articles on the craft and business of genre fiction have appeared in *Writer's Digest*, *Clarkesworld*, and *Lightspeed Magazine*. He has taught masterclasses on worldbuilding, space opera plotting, and speculative fiction revision at writing conferences including WorldCon, Dragon Con, and the San Francisco Writers Conference.
Before focusing on editorial work, Will spent seven years in book publishing at HarperCollins, where he worked in the science fiction and fantasy imprint and developed an insider's understanding of what agents, editors, and marketing teams look for in debut genre fiction. That experience — seeing which manuscripts sold and which didn't, and understanding why — informs every framework and strategy in this book.
Will lives in Portland, Oregon, where he reads approximately 120 novels a year, maintains a deeply opinionated ranking of the top forty space opera series of all time, and is slowly building a scale model of the *Beagle* from *The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet* in his garage. When he's not editing or writing, he's probably convincing someone that the *Battlestar Galactica* reboot is the best television drama of the twenty-first century.
