Owen Jones was Designer of Welsh decent who was born in London close to the turn of the 19th century. He published "The Grammar of Ornament ", in 1856 after travelling through Turkey, Spain, Sicily and Egypt. He created these colour illustrations based on the style of ornamentation he found in his travels. As a teacher Jones wanted people not to just reproduce cool designs like these but realize the underlying principles of the designs and decorative art in general.
